Maiden and Perston, Grenada North Park Saturday, 9 April 2022
Updated 25 Apr 2022.
We have kicked off the harriers season with the Maiden and Perston club races. We had a slight change to the course this year -- instead of the figure 8 of the last few years, it became a straight 'round the fields', reducing the distances slightly (back to 2.0km for two laps) but introducing a tough finish with tight corners and two uphill pinches just before the finish line. Like last year the conditions were great with summer-like temperatures and a dry course - the usual bog below playground was the smallest we've seen it!
In the Maiden race, the race for those who have never won a competitive race before, Ryan Mackay streaked out ahead, fnishing 10 seconds ahead of Connor Kemp. Juliet Moorhead was first female, and also was first equal in the handicap alongside George Millar, both 29 seconds ahead of their handicap time.
In the Perston Memorial, Desmond Reddy had a nine second lead over Simon Angus at the finish (who was second last year also). James Wembridge was third another 11 seconds behind Simon. Ava Sutherland was first female, leading in Kate McHardy and Deb Lynch. The handicap was won by Jenny Alderton-Moss, a whopping 58 seconds ahead of her handicap time.
