As usual, we have kicked off the harriers season with the Maiden and Perston 2km cross country club races. We had fantastic summer-like conditions with an excellent fast course. This year the course retained the straight 'round the fields' route with its tight corners and two uphill pinches just before the finish line (nasty).
In the Maiden race, the race for those who have never won a competitive race before, Mei von Dadelszen was first across the line, 22 seconds ahead of Johnson Li. Liz Anderson won the sealed handicap, 34 seconds ahead of her handicap. If anyone sees Liz try to run the Maiden again next year, please tell her she now has to run in the Perston.
In the Perston Memorial, Max Doherty was first across the line in 6:10, 15 seconds ahead of newcomer Scott Russell. Handicapper Joe reckons 6:10 is equivalent to a 16:04 5km. Simon Angus, looking lost without the pram to push, was another 8 seconds back. First female across the line was Olivia McDowell, in 6:50, ahead of Lucy Hannah and Juliet Moorhead.
The sealed handicap was won by Ellie Wallace who ran 36 seconds quicker than her handicap time.
