Athletics New Zealand AGM 21 Oct 2004.

The AGM of Athletics New Zealand last week saw several new faces elected to the Sport's voluntary Board of Governance. For the first time in a few years there was a vote with 5 candidates standing for four positions. The three new members, all duly elected, were: Val Dorling (Auckland business woman with a number of Sport interests and other Board directorships), Simon Panckhurst (a Human Resources consultant located in Christchurch) and Annette Purvis (Insurance Sector specialist also based in the South Island).

Current Board Member and incumbent Chair, Craig Purdy, was re-elected as the fourth member. At a brief Board meeting held on Saturday following the AGM, Purdy was re-elected unopposed as Chair with David Cosgrove being elected unopposed as Deputy Chair.

"There was a distinct mood of upbeat optimism at the AGM and this was reflected in the Board appointments", said Jeremy Kennerley the new Chief Executive for athletics. He adds "the Council has seen the need to move this Sport forward and has responded by investing in youth, wider experience and independence to assist the management team run the business."
