World Masters Mountain Running Trophy 29 Aug 2004.
From Mike Wakelin in Italy:
It was a good day at the masters world mountain running champs, sunny, clear (approx 25 deg C?) cool light breeze blowing up the hill, and fine runs from the NZers.
Rolling starts for each 5 year age category, 20min apart, starting with 70+ men and women together, but no men 35 to 40 age group. By the finish (8.5km 750m climb) it was a continuous string of mixed ages and styles.
Trevor Ogilvy was wrapped with his well paced run for third (55 - 60 age group). Pat Meffan backed up past senior mens world champs performances with a deserved third place in the 45 - 50 age group. In the same category Paul Forster and Colin Earwacker were a few minutes back. Graeme Pearson in the 40-45 group was similarly placed in a huge field of runners.
Our only woman, Leanne Dury drifted back to finish 5th in the 35+ group.
The event had a great atmosphere and hopefully in future our masters athletes will be better supported.
A little late in this, and I'm not sure fully of the results, but hopefully they are on the website. I apologise for any mis spelt names!
cheers mike
