New club awards for track and field 6 Jan 2022.

Olympic Harriers has a huge number of cups, trophies and awards for our harriers events (cross country and road), but outside of children's athletics, we have no recognitiion for track and field achievements.  

To address this, Olympic Harriers is excited to announce it is introducing a number of trophies for our Youth (athletes between the ages of 15 and 19), masters and seniors for Track & Field competitions. These will be awarded at the first prize giving ceremony during March 2022. (A final date, venue and time will be posted at a later stage.)

The categories so far are as follows:

  • Senior Sportsman of the Year – will be allocated selecting the athlete results from all the top achievers in each category. 
  • Senior Sportswoman of the Year – will be allocated selecting the athlete results from all the top achievers in each category.
  • Senior Master of the Year (male) – will be allocated selecting the athlete results from all the top achievers in each category. 
  • Senior Master of the Year (female) – will be allocated selecting the athlete results from all the top achievers in each category.
  • Youth Sportsman of the Year – will be allocated selecting the athlete results from all the top achievers in each category.
  • Youth Sportswoman of the Year – will be allocated selecting the athlete results from all the top achievers in each category.

  Specific events trophies are as follows:

  • Top senior sprinter male & female (2 trophies) distances will include 100m – 400m as well as hurdles
  • Top masters sprinter male & female (2 trophies) distances will include 100m – 400m as well as hurdles
  • Top youth sprinter male & female (2 trophies) distances will include 100m – 400m as well as hurdles
  • Top  masters male & female walker (2 trophies) distances will include 1200m – 10,000m
  • Top senior male & female walker (2 trophies distances will include 1200m – 10,000m
  • Top youth male & female walker (2 trophies) distances will include 1200m – 10,000m
  • Top senior male & female middle/long distance (2 trophies) distances will be 800m – 10,000m as well as steeplechase 2,000m – 3,000m
  • Top masters male & female middle/long distance (2 trophies) distances will be 800m – 10,000m as well as steeplechase 2,000m – 3,000m
  • Top youth male & female middle/long distance (2 trophies) distances will be 800m – 10,000m as well as steeplechase 2,000m – 3,000m
  • Top senior field event male & female (2 trophies) events will include shot put, discus, javelin, hammer, pole vault, long jump, high jump, and triple jump.
  • Top masters field event male & female (2 trophies) events will include shot put, discus, javelin, hammer, pole vault, long jump, high jump, and triple jump
  • Top youth field event male & female (2 trophies) events will include shot put, discus, javelin, hammer, pole vault, long jump, high jump, and triple jump

The criteria that will be used to award these trophies will be: 

  • All athletes that want to be considered for a trophy must be registered with the Olympic club and participate in official Olympic club uniform.
  • The competition timeframe will be from 1 October 2021 till 31st of March 2022.
  • competitions that will be taken into consideration will be where there were registered officials present and official results have been recorded. This includes competitions in the Greater Wellington Region as well as other centers in NZ and abroad.
  • The respective points table for World Athletics, Masters and Youth IP competitions will be used to allocate points to each individual achievement of an athlete.
