Olympic Juniors shine as records tumble 2 Apr 2021.

Olympic Harriers athletes Will Anthony and Poppy-Rae McGregor were two highlights at the 2021 Wellington Regional Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships at Newtown Park on Tuesday.

Will, fresh off the National Track & Field Championships in Hastings over the weekend, broke the championship record held by his coach, Alistair Leslie, over the 1500m distance. Representing Scots College, Will clocked a tidy 3.53.90, breaking the old Senior Boys record of 3.58.30 which has stood since 1977.

Poppy-Rae (Paraparaumu College), backed up her second place at the National Schools Triathlon Champs, with a pb of 10.17.54 in the Junior Girls 3000m champs - blitzing her previous best by almost 10 seconds and the old record by more than three seconds.
