You don't need an invitation to drop in on family.... 1 Jun 2017.

Hutt Valley Harriers Visit, Petone Rec (NE corner), Udy Street, Sat 3 June 2 pm

Hutt Valley and Olympic share a common history that goes back to 1923 when two Olympic members from the Hutt, Neil Craig & Tom Hurly, started up a new club that was closer to home.  Since then the two clubs have been great friends, with this run from their clubrooms an example of our bond.  There will be a chance to socialise with them after the pack run.  Hutt Valley will be involved in the next race on the Calendar too, as they are the hosts for the Dorne Cup.  That race started in 1925 just two years after the club formed, and in that first year there were three Dorne brothers in the winning team!

Grand day out at the Grand Memorial

The Army signallers from Linton got stuck in with the rest of the Olympic members as we all ploughed around, and mostly through, the mud and streams at the Boom Rock Rd course. Deb Platts-Fowler was first across the line, with Tracy Berghan second a few seconds back.  First of the 8km finishers was Burgler Brian Rusbridge.  A full race report and results is on the website http://www.olympicharriers.nz/results/event.php?eid=1253 with links to the photos from the day.

Also on the website are results from the Master's Relay held on the Sunday at Trentham (where the Dorne will be held).  We had three teams competing, with the mixed team winning the event and Michelle Van Looy the fastest woman. Well done all!

North Island Cross Country at Taupo, 1 July

The Club likes to have an away event where runners and their families can have a fun weekend of running, and this is it!  There are a good number already signed up but time is running out to register.  There is a fair bit to organise in terms of accommodation, how many vans we need for those looking toi share a ride up there, and booking spaces for dinner so it is really important to let us know who is going. The web portal is the way to do this, and has a few more details of what is coming up -- please do get in early and sign up now. https://eventdesq.sportstg.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=main&EventDesqID=25117&OrgID=10499

Club Subscriptions are due

June is here and your Olympic subs are (past) due.  You won't be able to run in the interclub events if you are not paid up, so it is getting serious!    Sign up on the web page https://memberdesq.onesporttechnology.com/3228/org   The club depends on your support to keep things ticking over.  We also apply for a good number of grants from community funders (which we often get, thanks Brian) -- that extra money in the pot means you get even better return on your investment!

Next Runs

Social Contacts

  • There are a couple of active Facebook pages associated with the club.  If memory serves you need to be accepted to get access but that is not a big hassle.  A variety of semi organised runs at different levels, encouragement for summer track athletes, and celebrations of current (and some past) performances all turn up regularly.
