Pack walk/run from clubrooms - Sat 29 April 27 Apr 2017.

Pack walk/run from Clubrooms, Alex Moore Park Sat 29 April 1:45pm

A quieter weekend than last but plenty on none-the-less.  Adult runner and walkers can gather into groups and venture out around the town.  For 12-19 year olds, or indeed more 'experienced souls' who are young at heart, Lizzy Bunkenberg will be taking multi-paced sessions over different terrains to train you for the demands of cross country running.

Wellington Mountain Running Champs - 29 April Wainuiomata

Apologies for the late notice, these have snuck up on us.  A friendly atmosphere, but fierce hills is what you will get out in Wainui, and if you do well enough the chance to progress in the Mountain running champs scene.  Get in early (ie on Thursday) to save a few dollars on the registration

Shaw Baton Success

It was a great day out last week thanks to all those who helped out organise teams, set up the course, organise parking, and of course those who kept us fed.  Results are up, http://www.olympicharriers.nz/results/event.php?eid=1245 (iterim at the moment) - a win for Wellington in the Snenior mens after 21 years of Scottish dominance, and Wellington also won the senior women, junior women, junior men's and M50 races. Scottish won the M40, Olympic the W40 and Trentham the W50 grades.Olympic's Masters Women

Next week, 6 May, is University Relays at Paekakariki

More details about how to sign up will be out shortly but get ready for a day at the beach!  Please note that there is a change to the University Relays information to ensure current 12 year olds who are turning 13 years old this year, and current 13 and 14 year olds have an option to run a 2km race instead of the 4km relay.  With the additional scratch race an updated timetable for the kids races and the relay is listed below.  Revised info from the Vic Uni Club is also attached. The entry form for the relays remains unchanged.

Time to register for Harriers Membership
It is time to formally join (and pay for) the winter season with Olympic. https://memberdesq.onesporttechnology.com/3228/org    If you are still trying the club out for the first time there is no drama about leaving it a while as the due date is 1 May but the start of the season tends to be a time for money going out, so good to have some coming in too!  For your money you get entry to all the club and interclub races for the season and of course the chance to socialise at the clubrooms after runs.  The web has details of the fees and discounts for families etc.

Junior Walking Race - 21 May

Olympic has two out of a team of four boys or girls between 8 and 14 entered for the Central North Island Junior Race Walking Relay -- we need two more!

Jonno Plant (021 048 5785) has offered to manage the team and will have a tent/gazebo there on the day, so give him a call if you are interested.

It's a fun event so not the usual strict officiating and we are going to organise a couple of training sessions for anyone who wants to try.

Social Contacts

  • There are a couple of active Facebook pages associated with the club.  If memory serves you need to be accepted to get access but that is not a big hassle.  A variety of semi organised runs at different levels, encouragement for summer track athletes, and celebrations of current (and some past) performances all turn up regularly.
