Helpers for Porirua Grand Traverse

The Porirua Grand Traverse is coming again soon - Sunday 2 April (a bit over 3 weeks away), and Olympic has again been asked to provide 8 marshals for the run course, and a similar number for the run course set-up on Saturday.

This is one of the few fundraising things we do as a club so please consider helping out.  If you can assist us please let Mike know on events@olympicharriers.org.nz asap (by the end of the week if possible!)

Countdown to Harriers season

Summer looks like it is finally here, and while it is a great time to enjoy balmy evening runs, it is also time to look ahead to the new season starting on 1 April with our introduction day.  Official opening and Maiden and Perston club races are the week after.  The programme is being drawn up and people are working behind the scenes to make next year bigger and better than the last.

Everyone can do their bit to help that by sharing how much fun we all have with friends and acquaintances of all ages who may want to join the club.  Start gently by perhaps bringing them to one of the informal summer runs, or the fun sessions that Chris Speakman takes at 6:30 each Tuesday night at the club.   When you do see a new face, be open and friendly and perhaps resist any urge to run them into the ground until the second time they turn up!

Next Runs

  • Summer run 18 March: Clubrooms
  • Summer run 25 March: Newtown Park -- a chance to also support our summer athletics competitors who are racing

THATS ALL!  Introductory run for harriers season is 1 April, followed by the Maiden and Perston club races on the 8th which is the official start of the season (and an afternoon tea).

Social Contacts

  • There are a couple of active Facebook pages associated with the club.  If memory serves you need to be accepted to get access but that is not a big hassle.  A variety of semi organised runs at different levels, encouragement for summer track athletes, and celebrations of current (and some past) performances all turn up regularly.
