Weekly Newsletter - Road Relays Runners Return 8 Oct 2015.

Pack run/walk from Clubrooms 10 Oct, 1:45pm
Documentary evidence exists that a few hardy souls kept the home fires burning with a club run last week while the Road Relays teams were down in Christchurch.  This week should see a boost in numbers although there is always the debate about quantity versus quality...

Road Relays in Christchurch last week
Three Olympic teams shared the accomodation with one from Hutt Valley as we ran the 75th Anniversary Takahe to Akaroa relay.  Perfect conditions saw top efforts from all concerned and times that ranked well with past efforts.  Highlights included no disqualifications, no injuries and no damage to vehicles or facilities.  Thanks to Don Coley from Hutt Valley and Sally Gibbs from Tauranga (who was just 3 secs outside the race record up to Hilltop despite a head wind) who helped make up numbers.  I see there is a countdown to the next race on the club website so start planning now.

End of Season Prizegiving and Dinner, Saturday 17 October
The last organised club day is nearly here.  To mark another successful season -- we are not doing badly for centurians -- there will be a mystery run and some activities for the junior members.  Prizegiving is at 4pm and then the annual club dinner at 1841 Bar & Restaurant (Top Field Function Area), Johnsonville at 7pm.  You need to let Geraldine know if you are going to the dinner -- RSVP to secretary@olympicharriers.org.nz.

Summer run series
Looking ahead to the summer season there will be a series of informal runs on Saturdays.  We tend to alternate between one at the Club and one from a regional park or someone's home.   It is pretty relaxed and people usually bring a few nibbles etc to share if we are visiting, or sometimes we go back to the Club.  We will be looking for suggestions/offers of routes to run but the first venue is already shaping up to be at Tineke's out in Papakowhai on the 24th.  Details to come.

Masters 10 km, 25 October
If there is any puff left over after the first summer run, there is a fast 10 km race the next day from the Hutt Valley Marathon Clinic's function room at Huia Indoor Swimming Pool on an out and back course.  I seem to remember there is a nice prizegiving at the end, with a good ratio of prizes to runners, and they take a pretty liberal view of what a masters runner is.

Important dates:
Sat 10 Oct - Pack run/walk from the Clubrooms
Sat 17 Oct - Final Club day, prizegiving and dinner
Sat 24 Oct - First summer run
Sun 25 Oct - Masters 10km, Lower Hutt
