Weekly Newsletter - bring a wheelbarrow to the Champs 15 Jul 2015.

Club, combined with Wellington, Champs - Waikanae Park, Sat 18 July, first race 1:00pm
There is a metric shed load of prizes and medals up for grabs this week so come prepared to take away your share of the goodies!  Hopefully you have caught up with the change in plans to combine the club and centre champs.  There is a lot on for younger athletes, elites, and people generally -- this is one way to take pressure off the calendar.  The main things you need to know are:

  • Ensure you are registered AND that you *** bring your chip *** - no timing chip no entry.
  • If you are not registered yet panic is required -- contact Jo immediately jo@athleticswellington.org.nz
  • Race 1: 1:00pm Masters Men (40+, 50+, 60+, SM non-champ) (8km - 4 x 2km) Open Women (8km - 4 x 2km)
  • Race 2: 1:40pm Women U18 (4km - 2 x 2km) Masters women (35+, 50+) (6km - 3 x 2km) Women U20 (6km - 3 x 2km) Men U18 (6km - 3 x 2km)
  • Race 3: 2:10pm Men U20 (8km - 4 x 2.0km) Open Men (12km - 6 x 2.0km)
  • Race 4: 3:00pm Boys and Girls U9 (1.0km - 1 x 1.0km)
  • Race 5: 3:10pm Boys and Girls U11 (2km - 1 x 2km)
  • Race 6: 3:20pm Boys and Girls U13 (3km - 1km + 2km) Boys and Girls U15 (3km - 1km + 2km)

Full details and maps are here: http://www.olympicharriers.nz/calendar/event.php?id=2649

PS If you think I am joking about the wheelbarrow, think back to the haul from the Wellington Marathon.  Melissa showed me her medal for first in age for 10k walk and it weighed a ton!

Bits and Bobs...

  • The next Kids Cross Country Series event is on Sunday 26 July at Petone.  It's for kids from year 0 (pre school) through to year 8.  If they enter before this Sunday they'll receive a personalised race bib on the day.  Enter at www.athleticshub.co.nz.
  • There is no training this Thursday for Juan's group.  We'll have the timing chips there at Grenada North at 4.20pm on Thursday for anyone who wants to pick theirs up before Saturday.
  • For those competing at the Athletics NZ Cross Country Champs in Christchurch on 1 August - entries close midnight this Sunday 19 July. No late entries so make sure you do this now at https://eventdesq.imgstg.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=main&EventDesqID=13543&OrgID=5368

31st Masters Road Race (8k) last weekend
Fine weather, fine folks, and a fine lunch made for a great day last Sunday -- thanks to those who put it all on.  Results not yet to hand, but if you really need to know try checking: http://www.wellingtonmastersathletics.org.nz/jville.html over the next few days.

National Road Relays are coming up in Christchurch on 3 Oct
It is the 75th anniversary and it is a blast running from the edge of town over the Port Hills to Akaroa.  We have accommodation lined up but the places are not unlimited -- contact Brian Rusbridge Brian.Rusbridge@nzct.org.nz to sort things out.
