North Island Cross Country 4 July: Details 1 Jul 2015.

For all those coming to Taupo for the North Island Cross Country Champs here are some details.

PLEASE NOTE - the entry fees are getting up there so if you know now that you're not running please let us know beforehand.  The club pays for your entry fee if you're a financial member of our club.  And if you think you're running it might pay to double check we have you on the entry form.

Race times and other info can be found at this link https://goo.gl/RJUvfL.

There are a few changes to the usual timing of races, prize giving and dinner so don't stop reading here.

  • The first running race is the 10 and unders at 10.30am (note the earlier start time).  The walking event starts 9.30am.
  • All race times and distances are included on the document link above.  For all age grades (except masters) the age is as at 31 December 2015.  So if you're 10 now but turning 11 before the end of December you'll be in the B12/G12 grade.  For the masters grades it's your age on the day of the race.
  • I have included a link of those who we're entering in the races here:  https://goo.gl/DjCWYH.  Please check to see if your name is there (or not there) and let me know asap if there are changes to be made.  We don't want to have to pay the late entry fee for those who discover they're not entered once we're up there on the day.
  • We'll have the Olympic tent set up on the day, so this is where you need to get your race numbers from.
  • If you get there on Friday it’s a good idea to have a walk around the course.  If anyone is going to be walking the course and are happy to show others around let me know what time you'll be there and I can let people know.
  • On the Saturday each competitor gets a voucher to get a free muffin and hot drink.  They will also have a BBQ where you can buy steak sandwiches or sausages.
  • There is a playground that the kids enjoy playing on while they’re supporting the other runners from our club.  Others spend a bit of time watching the races then head off to AC Baths across the road for a nice warm swim.
  • Prizegiving is held at Taupo Nui College on Spa Road at the earlier time of 3pm (note:  it's a different prize giving venue to the last few years).
  • Medals and prizes for the top three in each race are awarded at the prize giving.
  • We're aiming for another win this year for our club so give it everything.  Every one who runs earns points for the club, not just the top three.  So you're all contributing to the team effort.
  • For those who have kids there, it's a good idea to bring a change of clothes and swimming gear, as the AC Baths (hot pools) is almost across the road from Spa Park.  Although there are lots of running races to watch - and a good park they can play on instead.
  • The Club Dinner is at Wairakei Resort on State Highway 1 just north of Taupo (www.wairakei.co.nz).    We have 84 coming to the dinner.  If you didn't let Geraldine know you were coming then I won't have you down for the dinner (so please email me asap if you need to be added).
  • The cash bar will be open from 5.30pm onwards, with dinner in one of their function rooms planned for 6.30pm.  Olympic is paying for the dinner.  It's a great venue with the hot pools outside, so feel free to hop in the hot pool afterwards too.
  • We will have a slideshow of photos from the day to start with.  AND if the Hurricanes are in the rugby final we'll have this showing on a big screen in the same room we're having the dinner.  There are also TVs in the bar area.  So you won't need to go back to where you're staying - we can all watch together!
  • On Sunday morning we meet at the bottom carpark for a run or walk from Spa Park up to Huka Falls.  We'll meet at Spa Park at 8am (for the older runners and those heading back to Wellington early), and 9am (for the younger ones and their parents).  Some run on further than this and others turn around before they reach the Huka Falls.  Either way, we end up having a dip in the hot pools by the side of the river under the bridge near Spa Park.  The kids especially love this part of it.  Bring a change of clothes and a towel as it’s freezing when you get out!
  • Brian Rusbridge put together a helpful list a few years ago of things you should bring with you which is included at this link https://goo.gl/t9wBLq make sure you pack for all weathers!
  • For those staying at the Top 10 Holiday Park, Brian will be in contact with you directly.  For those staying at Wairakei we'll see you there.  And for others we'll see you at Spa Park on race day.

If you have any other questions let me know.

See you all up there.  Can't wait!

Cheers

Jo Murray
