Weekly Newsletter - pack run this week 24 Jun 2015.

Pack run/walk from Clubrooms, Bannister Ave Sat 27 June 1:45pm
We seem to have had pretty good weather this year -- I can hardly remember running in any proper rain.  During this week perhaps not so much! Obviously this is a challenge to the weather gods who will do their best to make the pack run/walk memorable this week too (for the right reasons).

Wainui Classic - Sun 28th - price drop (?)
Not really a discount - just me not reading carefully last week.  $15 will book you a place if you register online before THURSDAY, $20 on the day. It is the 19th year of the Wainuiomata Classic, run in conjunction with the Wellington Mountain Running Championships on Sunday 28th June. See http://www.sportsground.co.nz/wainuiomataaahc/79926/ for details.

Schools Cross Country
NZ Secondary School Cross Country Champs were held at the chilly Gladfield Gold Course in Dunedin last Saturday. Well done to club members who competed for their schools:
Josh Nairne, Liam Kennedy, Seamus Kane, Michaela Walker, Phoebe van Boheemen, Izzy Hegan, Amelia Harris.  Full results here: http://athletics.org.nz/Events/2015-nz-secondary-schools-cross-country-championships.

North Island Cross Country 4 July
Things should all be sorted as it is just around the corner, with perhaps transport the last job to see to. See the previous newsletter if you need to scramble to make arrangements: http://www.olympicharriers.nz/news/?eid=485

The Wellington team for Taupo is out. Well done to club members Seamus Kane (MU18), Kevin Pugh (M35), Jo Crawford (SW), Verona Conroy (WU18), Phoebe van Boheemen (WU18), Michaela Walker (WU18) and Michelle Van Looy (W35).  For the full team see the Athletics Wellington announcement.

Check out the latest from Athletics Wellington
June newsletter is out and full of bits and pieces from the running scene beyond the borders of the club: http://us8.campaign-archive1.com/?u=f29bc70d729758507d9e8c0f4&id=23061f5d92&e=99894f918c.

Apologies...
I missed a couple of hard cases from the Dorne-Xterra double last week - well done Caroline Farley and Jo Crawford. There was also a stumble copying across the results for the Dorne on our website that meant Jo didn't get the mention for her 7th place in the SW race.  Sorry.

Away trips and other races

  • If you can't make it to Taupo (or perhaps even if you can) there is the Wellington Marathon on the Sunday 5th July.  The Heart Foundation is fund-raising with "Heart Racers" see:
    https://www.heartracer.org.nz/
  • 5 Bridges Marathon Events. 23 August 2015. Start and finish at Petone Workingmens Club, Udy Street, Petone. http://capitalmultisports.co.nz/events/5-bridges-marathon
Distances to suit all levels of fitness, runners or walkers. All finishers get a medal and certificate. Get your finish time individually printed a minute after you have crossed the finish line.
  • A little further away are the National Road Relays in Christchurch on 3 Oct.  It is the 75th anniversary and it is a blast running from the edge of town over the Port Hills to Akaroa.  We have accommodation lined up but the places are not unlimited. Start looking for flights now - there is as much competition in finding the cheapest flight as there is in the race itself!

Important dates:
Sat 27 June - Pack run from the clubrooms
Sun 28 June - Sunday long run at the clubrooms
Sun 28 June - Wainuiomata Classic
Sat 04 July - North Island Cross Country Championships, Taupo
Sun 05 July - Wellington Marathon
