Club News
Weekly Newsletter - pack run this week 17 Jun 2015.
Pack run/walk from Clubrooms, Bannister Ave -- Sat 20 June 1:45pm
After what seems a busy few weeks we have a couple of Saturdays in a row back home. Rest assured, things pick up again next month with a load of events so enjoy the chance to kick back a little.
Dorne Cup last week
There were over a hundred Olympic runners at this event and we were treated to a great day once again. As a club we came through with a fair share of podium finishes with our strength in the juniors showing through. It came at a bit of a cost tho' with a few people pulling up with leg issues - hope things come right Butch and Mark A. Check out the report on our website http://www.olympicharriers.nz/results/event.php?eid=1148 or for those who like to look into the detail Mike Waterman spied this version of the results on the Hutt Valley web site http://hvh.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/dorne-splits-2015.pdf.
A couple of hard cases (Nick, Hayden, Kelsey, Tineke, Jean, Caroline, Tony) turned out again on the Sunday for the final Xterra run at Makara Wind Farm -- fall down stunning day and although it is not supposed to be a race the results showed a few of us near the top: Xterra results
Shortest day -- Sun 21st
Always nice to reach this point where things start looking brighter each day. Take the opportunity to fight SAD and join Chris Martin for a little mid winter madness at 6pm Sunday 21st down at Freyberg Pool. Details are at http://solstice.fitnessmad.net/.
Wainui Classic -- Sun 28th
It is the 19th year of the Wainuiomata Classic, run in conjunction with the Wellington Mountain Running Championships, on Sunday 28th June. As registered members you get a discounted price of only $20 for what really is a classic. See http://www.sportsground.co.nz/wainuiomataaahc/79926/ for details -- entries need to be in by middle of next week.
North Island Cross Country -- 4 July
No need to make a fuss any more -- things should all be sorted as it is just around the corner. See the previous newsletter if you need to scramble to make arrangements: http://www.olympicharriers.nz/news/?eid=485.
Away trips and other races
- If you can't make it to Taupo (or perhaps even if you can) there is the Wellington Marathon on the Sunday 5th July. The Heart Foundation is fund-raising with "Heart Racers" see:
https://www.heartracer.org.nz/ - 5 Bridges Marathon Events. 23 August 2015. Start and finish at Petone Workingmens Club, Udy Street, Petone. http://capitalmultisports.co.nz/events/5-bridges-marathon
Distances to suit all levels of fitness, runners or walkers. All finishers get a medal and certificate. Get your finish time individually printed a minute after you have crossed the finish line. - A little further away are the National Road Relays in Christchurch on 3 Oct. It is the 75th anniversary and it is a blast running from the edge of town over the Port Hills to Akaroa. We have accommodation lined up but the places are not unlimited. Start looking for flights now -- there is as much competition in finding the cheapest flight as there is in the race itself!
