Weekly Newsletter - Dorne Cup at Trentham 10 Jun 2015.

Dorne Cup, Trentham Memorial Park, Sat 13 June from 1:00pm
The next in the inter-club series is run by our old friends the Hutt Valley Club.  A fast grass course and a good workout ahead of the North Islands. http://hvh.org.nz/dornecup2015/ (Note that, as with all these races, the club pays your race fee from your subs.)  Remember to turn up a little earlier to warm up and check out the course.

By now you will have all paid your subs (https://memberdesq.imgstg.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=main&OrgID=10499) and will have sorted your timing tags... See Jo's link a bit further down if you have not -- Wed 10th really is your last gasp chance; no more nagging!

Hutt Valley Harriers last week
A good time had by all as we caught up with our Hutt Valley cousins.  A varied selection of pack runs, then the inaugural running of the Beer Mile Challenge between the clubs.  Great form shown by Brad for Olympic, but we were well beaten by a team with more training.  A person who will remain nameless did not trouble the scorers...there is always next year.

North Island Cross Country 4 July - (nearly past) time to commit
Send the details of your family's competitors _NOW_ to Geraldine (secretary@olympicharriers.org.nz) to allow her to get the team entries in.  It really is a blast.

  • give your birth date so you get in the right team
  • if you want to stay at the Taupo Top 10, tell Geraldine who will pass it on to Brian (*** very last chance for this ***)
  • if you want to be at Wairake you should already have told Jo -  johannamurraynz@gmail.com - but I think that boat has now sailed... perhaps you can try the Top 10!
  • are you coming to the dinner on Saturday night at Wairake, most people do
  • no team vans this year so start talking to each other to look for transport options

Oh yes, and the blurb on  what it is... The North Island Cross Country Championships is held each year in Taupo.   The Club has won the Club trophy for the past few years on the back of a big attendance.  It's a fast but tough course combined with a great weekend away with family friendly fun and a Saturday night dinner.

Olympic misses out on Sport Wellington's Club of the Year
Congratulations to Kapiti Coast United Football Club who took out the award for Club of the Year last Thursday night.  Athletics got a look in with Geoff Henry getting the nod as volunteer of the year, pipping Rama Smith, and Grant Elliot hit one ball for 6 and got the big prize -- how hard could that really be?

Away trips and other races

  • If you can't make it to Taupo (or perhaps even if you can) there is the Wellington Marathon on the Sunday 5th July.  The Heart Foundation is fund-raising with "Heart Racers" see:
    https://www.heartracer.org.nz
  • 5 Bridges Marathon Events. 23 August 2015. Start and finish at Petone Workingmens Club, Udy Street, Petone. http://capitalmultisports.co.nz/events/5-bridges-marathon
Distances to suit all levels of fitness, runners or walkers. All finishers get a medal and certificate. Get your finish time individually printed a minute after you have crossed the finish line.
  • A little further away are the National Road Relays in Christchurch on 3 Oct.  It is the 75th anniversary and it is a blast running from the edge of town over the Port Hills to Akaroa.  We have accommodation lined up but the places are not unlimited. Start looking for flights now - there is as much competition in finding the cheapest flight as there is in the race itself!

Sat 20 June - Pack run from the clubrooms
