Club News
Weekly newsletter for 31 March 31 Mar 2015; updated 31 Mar 2015.
It's Easter -- run like a hare?
A good start to the season with plenty of people from last season, a few people picking up where they left off, and some new faces. Hope you all enjoyed the day.
The syllabus is out with all the dates you need to put in your diary, plus a whole extra sheet with options for training of various types. Pick up a copy at the club rooms, see it on the website, or just click here http://www.olympicharriers.nz/resources/2015_syllabus.pdf. What's that I see... blue writing talking about Sunday long runs... that's new!
The swept up new web based registration for club fees is on the website too. If you are impatient you can go straight here: https://memberdesq.imgstg.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=main&OrgID=10499 The key thing to remember if you were a member last year is to login with your old details - there are instruction on the registration page.
Keep in mind the Porirua Grand Traverse which is advertised at the end of the email. Our club provides helpers (and gets a contribution to club funds) so if you can help contact m.waterman@cribbwaterman.net -- Mike will be pleased to hear from you and your karma will increase.
Pack run/walk from Clubrooms this week, Bannister Ave, Saturday 4th April, 1:45pm
You might be trying to call all the chocolate and hot cross buns carbo-loading -- which is fine -- but it does meant you have to participate in a run. It is another introductory day so anyone wanting to get an obligation free look at what a harriers club does is most welcome. Remember even if you are just looking, bring your shoes!
Important dates:
Sat 4 Apr - Club day
Sat 11 Apr - Maiden / Perston, first club race of the year at Newlands College, and official opening (bring afternoon tea to club afterwards)
Sun 12 Apr - First Sunday long run
Sun 12 Apr - Porirua Grand Traverse (external organisers)
Sat 25 April - Shaw Baton, first inter club race (Olympic organise this so we will need helpers)
===================================================================
Fun Run and Mountain Run events with X-Factor - the Porirua Grand Traverse (12 April 2015)
Olympic Harriers will be timing the PGT this year and helping with marshaling - so hope to see as many families participating as possible!
The Fun Run is a great social event for businesses, clubs, schools and families – from world champions to weekend walkers! The course is a stunning and achievable 7.5km run or walk around the Titahi Bay headlands and over Whitireia Park - finishing at Whitireia Polytech on the harbour's edge.
With Best Dressed cash prizes on offer – it’s a great excuse to dress up to make it more FUN than RUN! Plus – the new Youth Challenge section offers kids and their schools a chance to win great prizes and cash for their school.
The 18km Mountain Run is a spectacular and demanding course through native bush, open farmland and rocky coastlines. Plus there are Mountain Bike (26km) and Paddle (10km) options.
Early bird entries until 1 April. The Fun Run costs $15 until 1 April - with a $5 discount per person for teams of 4 or more. Details of all event options at www.poriruagrandtraverse.co.nz (Like on Facebook www.facebook.com/PoriruaGrandTraverse).
