Vosseler Shield - 19th of May 9 May 2012.

The Vosseler Shield is when the cross country season starts in earnest. And for many club members this event is the toughest race that they will encounter; some call it a mountain race rather than cross country.

It is held at Mt Victoria over a very undulating course along the trails that run through the hills.

Trophies and medals are awarded to the team winners and the first in each grade. There is also the Barry Everitt Plate, awarded to the club with the highest number of points, with every finisher counting (100 points for first, 99 for second, etc), so a big turnout is important!

This is also an important race for the seniors and masters for club trophies, because it is the first race of the year that counts for the interclub points competition (awarded to finishers with the highest points earned over four interclub races) – which determines the club's highest overall achievers – and the incentive points competition (awarded to those who finish better than their club rankings over the four inter-club races). It is the second race (after the Shaw Baton) that counts for the club representative badge, awarded to those who compete in the A team (for the Shaw Baton), or finish in the counting team (for the other races) in four out of five interclub races. This is harder this year in some grades due to the smaller counting team sizes!

You do not need to enter for this race – just turn up. However you must wear your timing chip for your time to be recorded, and you must have paid your subs for this to have been activated. (This goes for all Wellington non-relay interclub races.)

Note the changes to this years schedule – see details on the calendar.

Enjoy – and if the thought of all that uphill puts you off, just remember there is as much down as there is up!
