Olympic Wins Taupo Top Club Trophy 5 Jul 2009.

Olympic have claimed the top club award at the North Island Cross Country Championship races.   We have been sitting in second place for a couple of years now and always travelled north with an eye on the prize.   The Pakuranga club have held the trophy for many years but this year the breadth of the Olympic team overwhelmed them.   Olympic was awarded 4360 points to Pakuranga's 3373 points.   Hutt Valley Harriers were third with 2643 points.   A decisive victory but one that we will have to work to keep next year for this hotly contested award.   The trophy was last seen filled with lollies heading south in a van full of our exuberant youths.   It is awarded to the club with the highest score based on the top three finishers in each grade. Look out for it in the trophy cabinet next week.

Of the five top clubs, four were from Hutt/Wellington area.   Wellington held the centre points competition with 4053 points against 3730 for Auckland with Waikato Bay of Plenty bring in third place with 3622 points.   A close call for Wellington.

The word at the finish line seemed to agree that there were smaller but tougher fields this year.   Look for a race report and details of several Olympic successes in the results area.
