Squads named in preparation for Oceania Championships in Christchurch 26 Aug 2002.
Athletics NZ has named a large squad of athletes to prepare for the Oceania Open and Under 18 Championships in Christchurch from 12 to 14 December. Athletes in the under-23 age group were chosen for the Open Championships grade and 17-year-olds were chosen for the under-18 grade. Athletes targeted in both squads are athletes that have not previously represented New Zealand at a major Games or World Championships.
From Olympic, Jane Nalder was selected (steeplechase).
