Day 1 at the world mountain running champs 15 Sep 2002.

Moana Burt The world mountain running trophy is being held in Innsbruck, Austria, this weekend. The results from the first day’s races held overnight are:

In the junior women’s race, Victoria Ivanova of Russia was first in 21:00.0. Demelza Murrihy was first New Zealander across the line in 11th place, Club member Jane Nalder was 16th (22:57), and Lucy Cant was 28th. New Zealand was 6th team (2 to count).

In the junior men, Stefano Scaini of Italy was first home in 50:45. Club member Lyndon McGaughran was first New Zealander home in 57:10 (29th), and Matt Prosser was 36th. Other New Zealanders: Morgan Burne 32nd, Max Smith 44th. New Zealand was 10th team (3 to count).

First home in the senior women was Svetlana Demidenko of Russia in 52:16. Club member Moana Burt was 4th just under three minutes back. Other New Zealanders: Shireen Crumpton 6th, defending champ Melissa Moon 22nd, Carline Macdonald 27th. New Zealand was the second team behind Italy (3 to count).
