Olympic Runners were very successful at the New Zealand Mountain Running Champs held on Mt. Victoria 1 June 2003. Mike Wakelin returned to good form with a strong 3rd placing in the flagship Senior Men's event, after an intriguing battle amoungst the top 5 places.
Matt Prosser retained his Junior Men's title with an emphatic performance which should signal to the selectors his readiness for a strong world champs campaign in Alaska in September. Barry Prosser was just too strong for the Masters Men field showing all his experience on the Mountains for a gold medal in that grade.
Other top Olympic performances included: Sheryne Beeby 1st and Janet Dobbie 3rd - Recreational Women; Miles Coverdale 2nd - Recreational Men; Dana Hastie 2nd Wellington Centre, 5th overall - Junior Women; Chris Speakman 3rd Wellington Centre, 6th Overall - Masters Men; Sam Mallard 3rd Wellington Centre, 7th Overall - Senior Men.
