Summer run - Christmas at Papakowhai 14 Dec 2016.
Pack run/walk, 1 Tombane Lane - Papakowhai (above Police College), Sat 17 Dec, 1:45pm
Tineke has promised it's going to be nice weather! She will put some sausages on the BBQ (provided) but bringing a small plate to share would be appreciated. If you can't make the run at 2 pm, or are saving yourself for the Night of Miles in the evening, free to drop by for a cuppa with a view and company at around 3.30 pm to share and celebrate Christmas cheers for a successful club year that's been.
Park on Tombane Tce, walk up the Lane - left, left. Christmas dress compulsory (unless you don't want to.)
Doing the hard yards...
Somehow I missed recognising Butch Borlase's effort on the Kepler a couple of weeks ago -- all that training seemed to pay off with a great time!
Last week was the Taupo half ironman which Gareth McCash, Caroline Farley and Jono Leach fair smashed it with PB's all around. Pretty sure that's a safe statement cos I think it was their first try...
For mere mortals the summer run last week braved the wind and mist and hills of the Windfarm at Makara. Good to be out amongst it and clear the system of bugs and stress.
Lifestyle Sports Scottish Night of Miles, Sat 17 Dec
Night of Miles is an annual track and field event organised by Wellington running club Scottish. It is a unique event full of Christmas fun for the whole family including the much anticipated running with Santa mile. Each year they collect donations from athletes and spectators then hand them on to a local Wellington charity. The event entry fee is $5, donated to Wellington Free Ambulance regardless of whether entry is online in advance or on the day.
The programme consists of a mix of children's, senior and junior races, fun social events and serious events, highlights are the mile races. There are several different mile races including elite men's and women's races and an all-comers mile that anyone can participate in (including Father Christmas). http://athleticswellington.org.nz/News/lifestyle-sports-scottish-night-of-miles
New Committee getting on with things
At the AGM a month or so ago we ushered in new members to the club Committee. Not quite the same level of change as for the National Party, but a mix of old and new faces. As well as the vital tasks of keeping the books in order and regulatory bodies satisfied, we are having a go at getting the Centenary book under way again -- hopefully a collection of stories as much as anything, so if you have some let us know!
Committee is now: Juan (President), Rob (Captain), Trent (vice Captain), Megan (Treasurer), Geraldine (Secretary), Brian, Andrea, Bruce, Meredith, and Tony. Thanks to Miles, Eleanor and Denise who are stepping back, but they don't get off scot free as there are still trophies to organise and social events to run. Of course there are heaps of others doing their bit in terms of training, uniforms, website and more - without the excitement of Committee meetings! We, together, are all the club and fortunately many hands make light work.
Tuesday training, Alex Moore, 6:30 pm
Well recommended for all ages, and Chris gets the balance of fun, performance, and a bit of pain spot on.

There are a couple of active Facebook pages associated with the club. If memory serves you need to be accepted to get access but that is not a big hassle. A variety of semi organised runs at different levels, encouragement for summer track athletes, and celebrations of current (and some past) performances all turn up regularly.
