Didn't we do well! 28 Jul 2016.

Ease back into things with a convivial constitutional caper around home base.

Awesome effort from all last Sunday
Clubs from across Wellington and environs, young and old,  have had nothing but positive things to say about the day we put on for them at the Wellington Cross Country Champs.  The course was great, races were on time and we didn't run out of sausages.  Also the weather came to the party so we could all enjoy the spectacle.

The Club thanks all the people who pitched in from both junior and senior ranks to make it happen, both on the day itself and setting up on Saturday when it was more "atmospheric".  It was a big effort and it was much appreciated.  Particular mention to :

  • Juan and Rob who drove the whole enterprise and delivered a course that challenged everybody and was in the spirit of a 'real' cross country

  • Megan who quietly sorted out the critical details and ensured the volunteer effort came together

  • Jo, Rama and Daryll from Athletics Wellington who oversaw the nitty gritty of the races themselves, record keeping, timing, and of course the medals!

Full results are available on the Athletics Wellington site: http://www.athleticswellington.org.nz/Results/Cross-Country-Road, with podium photos here https://goo.gl/photos/HBzyukS9CzHgya7B6,  and pics of the younger competitors here https://goo.gl/photos/Lbpd4pUStYk38rF49

In terms of Olympic podium results shout-outs to:

  • Women U18 - Michaela Walker - silver
  • Senior Women (long course) - Esther George - bronze
  • Masters Women W40 (short course) - Marie Pugh - bronze
  • Masters Women W40 (long course) - Michelle Van Looy - silver

  • Men U18 - Seamus Kane - bronze
