Mid Winter Lull (corrected times for Sat, and ParkRun) 15 Jun 2016; updated 16 Jun 2016.

Pack run/walk from the clubrooms, Sat 18 June, 1:45pm (corrected time)
A couple of weeks in a row at home to allow people to recover from the Dorne, taper for the Wellington marathon event, or fit in that last bit of training for the North Island Cross Country Champs in Taupo... Of course it is also mid winter -- which ocean dip will you be joining in?

Park Run Pacing...back again...8am Bottomley Park, Porirua, Sat 18 June
Olympic has been fostering our ties with the Porirua Park Run and they are having another pacing session where  Olympic members help Parkrunners to reach PBs for the 5km course.   As well as those that are running at a set pace it would  be good to see a bunch of other Olympic people there in their club gear.  Parkruns are the kind of relaxed but serious fun that we enjoy at our club and both groups are keen to grow this relationship.
For details, and to sign up if you haven't before (it is free), visit: https://www.parkrun.co.nz/porirua/

If Sunday is more your thing, Olympic are also helping with the TempoFit groups.  They will be running at 8am on Sunday from Freyberg Pool.  Not the longest run as several of the gropup are running in the half the next weekend, but plenty of options to kick on if you want.  http://www.tempofit.co.nz/wellington-sunday-group-runs.html

Last week - Club Champs and Dorne Cup
Remarkably firm underfoot conditions greeted the runners for the 90th edition of the Dorne Cup interclub cross country race, which was of course the Club champs too.

Olympic acquitted themselves well on the day with race victories going to Jack Julian, Millie Jenkins and Annabel Tuck. We were also the winning team in the Under 13 Boys and Under 11 Girls grades, with numerous other second placings (including Senior Women).

The club champs races include a sealed handicap competition; the handicap winner is the competitor who beats the estimated time by the greatest margin (except the race winner is not allowed to also win the handicap).  If it all sounds a bit complicated, browse through the full results on our website : http://www.olympicharriers.nz/results/event.php?eid=1203

North Island Cross Country Championships, Saturday 2 July, Taupo
The Club's annual big day away is fast approaching.   Olympic always has a big attendance,  and the club has won the club trophy several times over the last few years  It’s a fast but tough course combined with a great weekend away for the whole family and supporters.  Participating is made easy for you with well oiled arrangements for:

  • Accommodation: we have booked a range of units from couples to families and groups of singles at the Camellia Court Motel, 50 Tonga St which is not far from Spa Park.  If you have any queries email Brian Rusbridge at brusbrid@xtra.co.nz ASAP.

  • Travel: There is a option of going up in vans organised by the club, again let Brian know if you are interested -- or perhaps carpool

  • Eating: The club dinner is on Saturday night at Wairakei Resort on State Highway 1, just North of Taupo.  The club pays for this dinner and all family and supporters are welcome to attend.

You need to register your interest in the race itself (and the items above) at https://eventdesq.imgstg.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=main&EventDesqID=19591&OrgID=10499.  Sooner the better please, because the people behind the scenes need time to work the magic that make it all happen 'effortlessly'.  Any general queries to Geraldine at secretary@olympicharriers.org.nz.

Membership subs were due 1 May...
Hopefully there are not too many stragglers, but if you are one of them you can do it online here: https://memberdesq.imgstg.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=main&OrgID=10499
