Past Members and Friends -- see you all at Grand Memorial 26 May 2016.
Grand Memorial, Boom Rock Road, Makara - first race 1:30pm
A special race where past club members and our friends from Hutt Valley join us for the thrills and spills of a challenging course. Held out at Ohariu Valley it has a staggered start so in theory everyone will cross the line at the same time. This year it may pay to heed Baden Powell's words -- be prepared -- as the weather looks a bit dicey (although there is a hint of a break in the weather about midday in the latest forecast.) It is a bit exposed and there is plenty of mud, so regardless of the forecast coats and boots are probably a good idea.
1:30 Boys and Girls 9 and under 1 km scratch race; Boys and Girls 13 and under 2 km scratch race
~2 pm main races begin their staggered starts: Walkers; Senior Women, Masters Women, Junior Women (W16 & W 19), Junior Men (M16 & M19) (4km open handicap); Senior Men & Masters Men (8km open handicap)
Baden was also keen on "Do your best!"
The same old call for helpers to set out the course -- would be nice to not see the same old people doing it.. 11:00 at the Club to pick up things, or 11:30 at the course. Text Rob (027 2326377) if you can help.
After the race we repair back to the clubrooms for a shared afternoon tea -- extra big plate please as we need to feed our guests too.
Heads up - Club Champs now combined with Dorne Cup
Logistics mean it is not feasible to run the Club Champs together with the Wellington Cross country Champs. So in a change to the published syllabus they will now be held together with the Dorne cup at Trentham. That's only a couple of weeks away...
Well done to all at the Vosseler last week
The weather played ball and it was perfect a perfect day for a stroll around Mt Vic. In keeping with that lazy approach I have borrowed Mike Waterman’s summary of the race from the web page:
Well done to our place getters in Wellington's toughest cross country race: Jo (2nd SW for the second year in a row), Lizzy (3rd SW), Michelle (2nd W40), Tracy (3rd W50), Steve (3rd M60), Olivia (3rd GU15), Will (2nd BU15), and Alex (3rd BU13). Awesome work.
Team results:
- 1st: masters women 40 (well done - awesome running!)
- 2nd: senior women (1st equal on points, 2nd on countback), masters women 50/60, girls under 15, boys under 15.
- 3rd: boys under 13, masters men 40.
- 4th: M60.
Olympic was the fourth club overall in the Barry Everitt Plate competition.

Other results...
Always a bit dicey giving a shout out as I am bound to miss individuals and sometimes whole events, but here goes...
- our Masters Women enjoyed the relay at Trentham the day after the Vosseler (Michelle van Looy with fastest women's lap)
- the week before at Trentham a team of walkers completed the marathon distance Ekiden relay
- Trent recorded a PB at the Hawkes Bay Half Marathon along with Liz Eade. A couple of other Olympians had targeted this race but unfortunately circumstances got the better of them.
- Also on our website is a look back at fastest times for Shaw Baton over the years http://www.olympicharriers.nz/about/races/shaw-baton-fastest/ -- thanks Mike.
Membership subs really are due now
Thanks to all those who have already signed up for the new season with Olympic. It's great to have you with us. Subscriptions for the 2016/2017 were due 1 May. When you register online, you'll have the option to pay via credit card or make a manual deposit into our bank account. https://memberdesq.imgstg.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=main&OrgID=10499
If you are signing up 3 or more members we offer discounts - 20% for 3 and 25% or 4 or more from the same family living in the same house. Note, this doesn't apply to associate or supporter adult memberships, or under 7s (who get free membership this winter). Our online system doesn't handle the discounts very well, so contact Megan to sort out your payment (treasurer@olympicharriers.org.nz or 0211176826).
If you were awarded an Olympic scholarship at last year's prizegiving, or you are a life member, your subs are covered by the Club. PLEASE STILL COMPLETE THE REGISTRATION PROCESS so we know we've got all your details up-to-date. (Just select the manual payment option and we'll sort the rest.)
If you have any questions about our membership options, or you'd like to set up a payment plan for your subs, please just email treasurer@olympicharriers.org.nz and Megan will be happy to talk things through with you.
