Club News
Maiden Perston - let the games begin 7 Apr 2016.
Maiden Perston - Grenada North - Sat 9 April, from 1pm
The traditional first club race day sees a couple of kids races, one race for people who have yet to win a Club trophy and one for those who already have. Being a sealed handicap means you are racing yourself as well so don't give up before the end! It is only a couple of km on a mostly flat course.
- Some helpers to set up please - drop Rob an email (captain@olympicharriers.org.nz) or be there around 12:30
- Arrive anytime after 1pm: Come and have a walk around the course and if you are a new member find out more info about Olympic.
- 2pm: 800m run for the 7 and unders
- 2.10pm: 1km run for the Under 10s
- 2.20pm-ish: 2km ‘Maiden’ run for those who have never won a race as a member of our club before.
- 2.35pm-ish: 2km ‘Perston Memorial’ run for all those who have won a race in the past as an Olympic member (including handicap winners).
- Back to the clubrooms afterwards -- bring a plate -- where war stories can be shared and aspirations made for this season.
Attendance award
One of the hardest awards to win is the badge for participating in each and every Saturday with the club during the season -- if you think that might be you, let Rob or Miles know.
Keep in mind the first interclub race of the year is organised by Olympic - Shaw Baton 23rd April. It's our chance to be good hosts and that takes work - yes, that means you may be asked to help out with setting up or doing parking duty.
Subs and signing up
Members should have received an email with details of how to sign on. It is a pretty straight forward process and has the benefit that it integrates with other clubs across the region and makes the big interclub events much easier to run. That might not be a big deal for most members, but it streamlines things for those that run your club behind the scenes. https://memberdesq.imgstg.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=main&OrgID=10499
Kids and familes, check this out!!
Also this week there was an email notice around the new kids programme on days when we are at the clubrooms. For five and up, Sean McCruden will run a programme of games and races that extends long enough for Mum and Dad to have a cup of tea after their own run with the pack if that's what they want. Sean knows what he is doing having been involved with kids programmes for many years.
Porirua Grand Traverse last Sunday
A big day out for many Olympic members both running around the course and helping out with marshalling. Didn't we do well: Lizzy Bunckenburg took out the multi sport event; Jackie Allan the mountain run; Butch Borlase the duathlon men's team; Michelle Van Looy 2nd duathlon team; Dane Atmore-jones and Millie Jenkins took out the 7.5k fun run too!
