Summer Run - Choc-o-fun 23 Mar 2016.

Summer run/walk -  Alex Moore Park, Sat 26 March 1:45pm
A gently Easter themed pack run from the club rooms -- you might want to dig out your bunny ears, or perhaps just a carrot... There are also rumours of an egg hunt (thanks Melissa)  - feel free to bring your own too.

What a friendly bunch!
Last week's visit to the Parkrun in Porirua was a success https://www.parkrun.co.nz/porirua/.   16 or more Olympic members on the day and a bunch of new friends, some showing real interest - particularly around what we have to offer in terms of training.
Also on last weekend was the first Xterra around Red Rocks, and in the Wairarapa Around the Vines (Sarah Riceman in another super finish, this time going down to her sister Charlotte by a few seconds)

TempoFit - What a keen bunch!
Athletics Wellington are linking with harriers clubs to promote this 6 week kickstart into more serious running for runners of all abilities.  They are keen to have club runners join them for their long Sunday runs (free).  The participants will hopefully benefit from being around crusty and cunning oldtimers, and in turn we can link in with fresh new runners that may become keen enough to join a club.  Who do you think gets the better deal....   Anyway, their first Sunday run is 8am on Sun 27th around Whitirea Park leaving from surf club on Toms Rd, Titahi Bay.  If you want to know more about the programme see:  http://www.tempofit.co.nz/wellington.html.

Athletics
Things are winding down now, but the exciting news has been Peter Hansen's medal haul from Canada age group World Champs.  Gold in the 60m, plus two silvers and a bronze in other events -- all with NZ M75+ records.  Wow.  Makes the otherwise great results from Nick Willis, Tom Walsh and Valerie Adams look average!

Harrier season is about to ramp up
Check out the upcoming runs at the bottom of the page - just a couple of weeks before we are back into it.  The syllabus for the year is nearly ready, but why not talk to running people at work who might be interested in trying harriers now.  Wec are loking at having activities for 5-12 year olds when runs are at the club -- parents would get time for a run AND a quiet cup of tea afterwards.  Details to be confirmed.

Keep in mind the first interclub race of the year is organised by Olympic - Shaw Baton 23rd April.  It's our chance to be good hosts and that takes work - yes, that means you may be asked to help out with setting up or doing parking duty.

Next Runs
Sat 26 March: Easter themed run at Clubrooms
Sat 02 April: Club Introduction Day - invite anyone who might be interested
Sun 03 April: Porirua Grand Traverse - Olympic provides helpers, one of the few times we ask for help with fundraising
Sat 09 April: Club opening day and Maiden Perston

Around Rarotonga Race
Miles and Sheryne have done the hard yards and chased down a good price for travel and accomodation.  The chance of cheaper fares closer to the day is balanced off against not getting into the hosting resort at Shearwater.  Do you you feel lucky... well do you...?  Contact Natalia McAllansmith at Flight Centre North City, 2374477, and you should be able to get the same kind of deal.

The Round Rarotonga Road Race celebrates its 39th Anniversary with its annual weeklong event from the 22-28 September 2016 held on the beautiful tropical island of Rarotonga. The event caters for everyone including families, social, recreational and competitive runners and is a fantastic opportunity to combine a holiday with a once in a lifetime sporting achievement.

A week of warmth at the end of winter sounds a good idea and a bunch of club members are planning to attend this year.  No firm arrangements yet but you can check out the website here: http://sale.cookislands.travel/events/round-rarotonga-road-race-2/
